As many of you already know, each year on the anniversary of 9/11, the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC) funds the Tribute In Light memorial for those who perished in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

The Tribute In Light has run every year since 2002, and in 2004 the LMDC put aside $3.5 million to keep the tribute going every year until 2008. It costs approximately $350,000 to run the Tribute In Light each year.

At the moment, there are no plans to extend the Tribute In Light into 2009 and beyond, but talks are starting up about such an idea. However, at the moment, 2008 is the last year you may be able to see the beautiful lights so don’t take the chance if you haven’t seen them yet up close (it’s not as pretty up close, but it’s definitely mesmerizing to see such a collection of bright lights shine up so high from the base).

The lights this year will be turned on at dusk on September 11 and turned off at dawn on September 12. The weather tonight is mostly clear with a patch of clouds here and there, which should be perfect conditions for the lights to take over the skyline.

M.E.

I got to go back for a while. Are you going to be there or you want me to hit you up in the big can? There’s a lady there I got to meet for a while.
