Seagate FreeAgent Go portable harddrives

Ok, the Western Digital Passport Elite that I just posted has a serious competitor. I don’t even know why I’m looking at portable harddrives. It’s not like I need a new one. BUT, if I did need one, it would be a competition of looks between these Seagate FreeAgent Go harddrives and the Western Digtial Passport Elite (in silver).
These stylish and thin beauties come in red, white/silver, blue, and black, but only the white and black models come in 500GB models (which kinda sucks, because the blue and the red are very nice). These harddrives are a bit more expensive than the Western Digital ones though, running you about $239.
What I don’t understand though is why Seagate markets these exact same drives as two separate items — one for Mac and the other for Windows (seriously, they do this). The only real difference is that the Mac ones come with a FireWire port, but it’s not like a PC can’t have that as well. Weird.
- WD Passport Studio now sports a FireWire 800 connection
- Western Digital My Passport Elite: 500 GB
- “Mac-compatible” My Passport
- Western Digital My Passport Essential portable HDD
- Western Digital Passport: now in 320GB capacities
