478-carat white diamond found in South African mine

Miners in the Southern African kingdom of Lesotho have unearthed one of the world’s largest diamonds. The white gem weighs in at 478 carats and is said to be nearly flawless with crystal-clear clarity. The Gem Diamonds Ltd. mining company released information on the diamond yesterday, saying that it was recovered from the Letseng Mine and that it is determined to be a “type II D color diamond” which is the highest color rating available for a white diamond.
It seems like the Letseng Mine is the place to go diamond hunting because that single mine currently holds the record for the three largest diamonds recovered this century.
