Muppets sing Mahna Mahna
I remember first hearing this song when I was in elementary school because it was used as a segue between two portions of a play I was in called “Once Upon A Lily Pad”. I never really understood it and I just thought of it as a silly-sounding tune to get the audience all relaxed.
It turns out, according to all-knowing Wikipedia, that the song was composed by an Italian musician named Piero Umilani for a softcore pornography film called Svezia, inferno e paradiso (or Sweden: Heaven and Hell).
The proper spelling of the title of the song is Mah Nà Mah Nà.
Anyway, the song has become a huge pop-culture hit ever since it was used in The Muppets in 1969. Since then, the song has been sung and danced along to by many different staples of popular entertainment, including Sesame Street and The Office (UK version). The video above is the original Muppets TV performance of the song.
By the way, have a look at the lyrics to this song. WTF, right?
