Pink & Blue by JeongMee Yoon

The attention to detail and layout in JeongMee Yoon’s Pink and Blue series is amazing. I can’t wrap my head around how crazy some of these photos are. The photographs basically visually extract the idea that pink is for girls and blue is for boys. If you look around, many baby products survive on this stereotype between gender and color. Walk into a store for baby goods and you’ll automatically see tons of pink things for girls and blue things for boys. Sure, there’s a push for the “neutral yellow” color which could be used for both genders, but even today the associations with color and gender still exist.

If I could, I would just post all of the photos from this series because every single one of them is such a fascinating peek into the minds of parents and the goods they consume and buy into.

JeongMee Yoon started this project back in 2005 and it’s still ongoing, so expect more photos like this in the future.
