Live Piracy Map

Piracy has been in the news a lot lately (the real “arrrrr matey” kind, not the music kind) and the International Chamber of Commerce has an interesting Google Maps mashup that shows live reports of piracy all over the world.

Apparently, it’s becoming a bigger and bigger problem as pirates are more than willing to use violence to board ships and loot its cargo and passengers of all valuable belongings.

So yeah, it doesn’t matter if you’re on a passenger ship or commercial ship, the danger of real pirates do exist. I guess if you’re planning a cruise somewhere, be aware of the dangers shown in the areas on the map above.
