Google hosts the LIFE photo archive

Photo: Andreas Feininger

This is a beautiful photo of the Brooklyn Army Base taken in October 1949. The image is part of the massive collection of LIFE magazine photos that Google is hosting and making publicly available for free.

Like all information compiled by Google, the archive is entirely searchable, which is a good thing considering that the photo archive dates all the way back to the 1750′s and stretches until today.

I could literally waste a good couple of hours or so digging through the wealth of treasure here, so maybe I’ll do that and make a separate post of found gems tomorrow.
