I was reading Logo Design Love’s write-up about the new Pepsi logo and found myself falling in love with these classic Pepsi cans from Pepsi’s better looking days. The author makes an interesting point about how the Pepsi brand has undergone so many expensive changes over the years while its direct competitors have only gotten a facelift with moderation.
Anyway, I wish the current Pepsi cans looked like this again.

It’s interesting how Coke went through some modernizations only to fall back on their classic look. I remember I was having a conversation with a friend of mine, talking about how we loved the classic look so much more, only to find that they’d already made the switch back. I don’t think Pepsi could go wrong in bringing back either of the cans in that picture (though I do have a fondness for the first one).
Logo design and branding has become so muddied and infiltrated by modern printing processes that these companies try to take advantage of things they don’t need to. Both cans are striking, instantly recognizable in a group and stand strongly on their own.
