I didn’t even know this show existed until I accidentally came across it while watching TV one day with Emily. Apparently, this is what ABC Family shows on TV now to teens and young adults. The Secret Life of the American Teenager is a weird mixture of kid-friendly entertainment with adult-like themes. It’s kind of cheesy and definitely a bit over the top and I think that’s why I can’t stand to watch it.
I really shouldn’t be surprised though because with shows like Gilmore Girls, Smallville, and 7th Heaven, ABC Family has cornered the market in absolutely crazy almost-family-friendly shows. Teenager is just another addition to the lineup.
PS: What a terrible show name, too! I mean, “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” doesn’t really roll off the tongue smoothly. Everything about this show is crap.
