Facebook Retrospective: a look at the design of the Facebook homepage

Believe it or not, Facebook turns 5 tomorrow and the folks at the company have posted a Facebook retrospective on the design of the homepage.

I can still remember registering for the site 5 years ago and realizing that it was one of the better ways to connect to people online. It took several years for “The Facebook” to really get rolling with colleges across the US, but when it did, the momentum couldn’t be stopped.

Unfortunately, a lot of people still do not realize the incredible potential behind Facebook and many in recent years have disowned the site for being too stalker-ish. These people are idiots who have taken zero time at all to fix the problem themselves by adjusting their privacy settings. I still believe that if people really understood the degree to which they could control the information they put on Facebook, there wouldn’t be any question as to what site they needed to have an account for. There’s no doubt in my mind that Facebook has the key to success on the internet because of how it connects friends, family, and strangers from all over the world.

If you disagree, you can sit back and be a luddite and kick yourself hard a couple of years down the road.
