Graffiti at Bethesda Terrace in Central Park

This could be a sign of a declining quality of life in New York City: Over the weekend 4 people were arrested for defacing the Bethesda Terrace in Central Park. The Bethesda Terrace re-opened in March 2007 after going through a lengthy and expensive renovation process, and to see it vandalized in such a way is quite shocking. Mindless vandalism like this is what gives graffiti artists a bad rap, and though I still think some graffiti has a place in society, this particular site is better without it.

The sad part about it all is that with a couple of dollars of spray paint, these 4 idiots managed to do about $50,000-$100,000 worth of damage. Man. Money just vanishing into thin air…

While it’s technically graffiti, that’s just plain old vandalism. I don’t know a single writer who would hit a spot like that.

I hope the families lose everything including their home to pay for cleaning this up. This is an outrage and is vandalism pure and simple.
