Valentine’s Day is coming up and Starbucks has the exclusive release of Sweetheart, a CD full of artists’ favorite love songs sung by the artists themselves. It’s an absolutely great CD to listen to even if you aren’t with a significant other because the new versions of classic love songs are sometimes almost better than the originals.
Here’s the tracklist below (tracks in bold are personal favs):
- Death Cab For Cutie – Love Song (The Cure)
- Katy Perry – Black and Gold (Sam Sparro)
- DeVotchKa – Hot Burrito #1 (Flying Burrito Brothers)
- Department of Eagles – Love Me (Elvis)
- Jessica Lea Mayfield – Words of Love (Buddy Holly)
- Ben Bridwell – Your Love Is Forever (George Harrison)
- Kate Tucker – I’m On Fire (Bruce Springsteen)
- Rogue Wave – Maps (Yeah Yeah Yeahs)
- A.C. Newman – Take On Me (a-ha)
- Jem – Yellow (Coldplay)
- Richard Hawley – Early Morning Rain (Gordon Lightfoot)
- Daniel Martin Moore – I Hear Music (Billie Holiday)
- She & Him – I Put A Spell On You (Screamin’ Jay Hawkins)
- Lila Downs – My One and Only Love (Frank Sinatra)
I already bolded it, but I’ll make special note of the Jem rendition of Coldplay’s “Yellow”. In a word, it is beautiful!

are they singing favorite long songs or favorite love songs? ;)
Fixed! Thanks!
I’m laughing pretty hard at Katy Perry singing Black and Gold.
