First, I just want to say that I think John there has a wild last name. I love it and I’m wondering how he got it (or what the history is behind his family name).
Second, I just want to point out his great set of Hotelscape photos that document different hotels around the world and how they all seem to come together in the end to make us feel “at home”. This sort of photography inspires me and it’s exactly what I need to look at during this dry spell of mine.

I don’t know John Wildgoose though I am aware of his photography. I dare say he’s a distant relative. If so he probably originates from Derbyshire/Staffordshire. I think they could have been farmers who kept geese ~ there is a mention of a man called ‘Goose’ in the 17th century and there are plenty of references to ‘Willgoose’ as well as ‘Wildgoose’ in the local parish church registers.
There’s another school of thought that suggests that it was a nickname for someone who was a bit crazy … someone who was as ‘wild as a goose’.

His name could be Native American. Around here there are many Ho-Chunk Indians with names like that.

Sorry, not native Indian, something far more drab. There are plenty of us in Yorkshire and Derbyshire, England. Apparently we are descended from the fecund loins of one of Wesley’s disciples. Farther than that is Wiltgens, a common northern European name, so I assume we were Viking settlers, and as such have a bad rep!
