You know, all of my life I’ve never actually owned my own umbrella. I’ve always used whatever umbrella was around or just went without an umbrella and tried to stay as dry as possible in the rain. Every time the forecast calls for showers, I get caught up in the decision to finally purchase a quality umbrella or make due with really crappy ones that I know will break once the wind starts blowing. And every time I go for the crappy choice, I regret not purchasing an umbrella that would stand up to the elements and be good enough for me to want to take care of it.
Unfortunately, I do not know how much a “quality” umbrella should cost. I see that Naked & Angry sells this black one for $35 (they’ve got other ones too), but to a person like me who has sold $1 umbrellas wholesale almost their entire life, I find it hard to find good reason to pay such a heavy price for ONE umbrella — even if it is of substanitally better quality than $1 ones.
So what say you? Buy an umbrella like the one above (not necessarily the one above), or just stick with cheapos and hope for good weather most of my life?
i always want to buy a really nice, sturdy umbrella too, but i usually end up losing mine. so i stick with cheap ones, but not as cheap as $1. those are really puny. a decent Totes can go for <$10 at Filene’s or Target. if i spend more, knowing me, i will absolutely lose it/leave it at a restaurant/in a cab/etc.
I’m always worried about losing it too.
what about the umbrella that can smash a watermelon in half?
and thinkgeek sells the umbrellas from blade runner. get one of those!
I’ve had an umbrella from Brookstone ($25) that’s lasted me quite a while. For a bit, their product guarantee was really good and I could bring it in whenever I had a problem without a receipt and just get a new one. I have gotten really scared I’d lose it… but I think the fact that it cost me so much (well more than I had ever paid before) had me keep closer track of it.
That said, now I live in CA, and am in danger of losing my umbrella in my apartment because it never gets used.
I think i’ve lost about 30 umbrellas so far. and most of them are about 3 dollars each. i asked my aunt to buy me a nicer umbrella for Christmas, in the hopes that i will keep my eye on it more. i think it’s working.
Totes has a lifetime warranty. so if you break it, you can mail it in and they send you a brand new one. i’ve done this about 3 times. You can’t pick what they send you, but most of the time, it’s similar to what you brake.
BUY!
Wow, lifetime warranty? I didn’t know that. That almost makes it worth the price.
*break
