I’ve heard so much about the original version of The Office from which the American version is based off of. It’s been out on DVD for a while now (even longer if you count torrents), but I’m just starting to watch it now. It’s pretty funny and I can definitely see where some of the American characters came from.
I’m only half-way through the first episode and some of the lines in the American Office are taken verbatim from the UK version. People have told me that if I like the American version of the show that I won’t like the UK version, but so far, I think it’s entertaining.
i started w/ (and LOVED) the UK version and hated the US version at first precisely b/c they lifted the same plots/lines for the first few episodes. but once the US v found their own groove (i think the basketball episode was the turning point), i started loving it. they’re both great!
but don’t forget to watch the Christmas Special after series (season) 2. that’s the real ending.
i totally agree w/ haemin… UK office is classic… US version sucked big time in the beginning ‘cos the plot/jokes simply didn’t translate well… the UK folks can go so much further with their humor w/o getting in trouble. i still like the UK version better and would re-watch every once in a while. watch out for the episode with the song “freelove freeway”… you’re gonna be on the floor. you’ll soon find our ricky gervais is a genius and steve carell’s just a decent copycat.
