A new look for Dora The Explorer

Nickelodeon and Mattel announced a new look for Dora The Explorer. The new Dora wears a dress with leggings rather than a shirt and shorts. The white sneakers that Dora normally wears is also gone and replaced now with flats (or slippers) instead.

There’s some obvious concern over whether the new Dora is “too sexy” for its young audience, but Nickelodeon is reassuring parents that the new look won’t diminish the show’s wholesome quality. We’ll see…

  • ariana says:

i think parents should really grow up because dora has been 7 for the past million years its about time she grows up you cant expect her to stay the same age forever, your children are going to grow up someday and with these new generations everything changes and thinkg happen quickly im a teenager i know that for a fact, everyone in school is talking about its about time she grows up and parents should grow up too

    • Sam says:

Yes their kids will grow up, but Dora will always be for the same age group. I think they should keep her the same. Its not like when those kids are 12 they will still watch her no matter what she looks like.

      • Azhane says:

i think dora looks ok.my brothers watch it every morning. Dora really needed that makeover. on the show she has a big head.this new her is cute and has a normal looking head i actually like the change and i dont think it wont harm the children from wacthing a good show for toddlers.

      • Liza says:

I beg 2 differ! Alot of kids i no stopped watching Dora when they were 8 years old. Dora needs change and i bet that alot of kids would want dora to grow with them.

  • LOVENEWDORA says:

I like the new Dora. A lot of parents are saying they don’t like it because shes too “sexy” but i don’t see anything wrong with what she’s wearing. It’s not a short dress but a tunic and leggings. Almost everyone nowadays is dressing like that. So im happy with the new Dora! ^_^

    • melonie says:

Dora does not look like a hoe. Shes just prettier than you are so you have to hate. She looks like most girls her age are dressing like. SHes just trying to relate. And Breanna you sound like a straight up dumb ass. WHat does the way shes dressed like have to do with girls being snobs.

Where’s boots is he out of the pic or did he grow up or did he die?!?!?!?!?!?!just wondering…… i think she looks a lot more cutier……she used to be short and fat and the ulgyest hair cut but now……

  • Emma says:

um…. Well I really think that the old dora was better because she was a little kid and the aduence that this is made for is for little kids so if the little kids watch this and start to think they want to be a teenager when their five years old!….
Dont take it in a offensive way I like the new dora but for little kids it really isn’t the best show for them to be watching if the new dora is there.
At least keep the old hair style! I mean come on!

  • Mae says:

As a 63 year old grandmother who watched Barbie grow up, never married to Ken and changed over years, let’s allow Dora to grow up. If you want to talk about sex, then Barbie hits the target 1000%. You grown women and men who are complaining about Dora are the ones who have made Barbie a fashion Icon and Mattel the company that Barbie represents more than any of their dolls. Dora is more real life than Barbie or any other Mattel doll and little girls live in reality. There is no reason for Dora to remain 7 while all of her fans grow up. I bet you don’t complain about Hannah Montana, who is very sexy to point of being in an explicit magazine layout. Let Dora grow up. A big shout out to Mattel for keeping it real

    • katinabby says:

      hannah montanna,is old news grandma!
      same as barbie

    • Jillian says:

      I agree with Mae 110%.
& dont worry, everyone making the game is watching out very strictly to be sure that it’s ‘parent appropriate.’

& Hannah Montana still has the lime light for a bit longer katinabby, shes just sharing it now.

this dora is a little bit disturbing.
have you ever got the kids feelings on this!
dont u think that the dora they had before was teaching kids that u dont need to be perfect to be pretty!
im 13 and i honestly loved doraas she was.chunky and cute!
u dont need to be this skinny thing with big brown eyes to fit in with the group!ive learned that u dont need to be something ur not then wat god made you!i really dont care if ur a christian or not!
this is wrong on many levels to make kids feel like they need to GLAMOR up to be pretty.many kids may feel that wayespecilly atthe age of 5 and 6, i have to little sisters and the way they look at things in life through the perspective through televison shows, dora is a tv show that is watched all over the world these days and yes kids need to grow up but not to become what there not, next its gonna be “can u show me how to get to the sex shop”? questions like that! imean common im not stupid.ino about what goes on in little ids minds these days and there not the best thoughts!
so please parents think about it,and u make the right chioces for ur kids and yea.
    thanks

    • melonie says:

sounds like your fat and ugly, and your pissed because dora looks better than you. Plus the new dora is not for little five and six year olds. Dora is now ten or eleven. SHe is growing with her age group. Her age group dresses like this. So why dont you get the facts before you make yourself sound like a dumb ass. Just because your ugly doesnt mean dora has to be

    • Shara says:

OKAY DORA IZ BETTER DIS WAY I MEAN SHE USED 2 BE STUPID FAT HER SHIRT WAS ALWAYS OPEN I THINK SHE LOOK LIKE A HOE BEFORE THEN NOW I MEAN ALL SHE IS WEARING IZ LEGGINGS A DRESS AND FLATS WUTS GROWN UP ABOUT DAT ALL 7 YEAR5 OLDS R DRESSING LIKE DAT NOW ITS JUST CLOTHES NOW SHE IS PRETTY INSTEAD OF BEING A FAT UGLY WHORE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SABBS says:

    HA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Heather says:

You guys need to stop picking on the 13 year old girl and dont call her fat. SHe is just giving her opinion. 2nd of all how does this dora look like a hoe? And why be so immature to cuss about a childrens show. That is stupid. My 2 year old loves this dora. I dont think she would want to be a teenager because of this. She already likes makeup and jewlery. All girls are supposed to. I think this dora is addorable.

  • Barabra says:

we like the old dora leave her alone

  • quiana says:

her style is cute it is not to sexy a 2year old would wear that

  • FellaDudeMan says:

I like the old Dora better, in part because of the reasons stated by Kaybby up there. I’m not even a fan of the show, but I did like how she seemed to have a somewhat thicker, mildly athletic build to her. It was a refreshing appearance compared to the more petite variety typically shown off in kids’ cartoons. Visually comparing this new Dora design to the old one is sort of like comparing Muffy and Francine from Arthur, they give off two different vibes. I think if this new Dora didn’t feel so made up, with the earrings and lipstick and all that, and wore something that looked like she wouldn’t mind getting it a little dirty on her mountain climbing adventures or whatever, I might feel more indifferent about it.

I dunno, I just feel that if you have had an established children’s icon for the last decade or so, making a change like this is a bit much. We tend to hold our childhood characters a bit closer than most others, and for earlier fans of Dora to look back at their old friend and not recognize her might hurt them in odd ways we really couldn’t even describe. It’s the same reason why nobody bothered watching the newer Muppets Show, it’s why the WB’s “Loonatics” idea was viciously criticized, it’s why Michael Bay got death threats while working on the Transformers movie, it’s why fans prefer watching the early Simpsons episodes, and it’s why a Costume Mickey’s head coming off scars kids for life. Whether we know it or not, as we age we begin to place these characters as footnotes to our own life stories, and it’s dangerous to alter a kids’ icon like this for entirely arbitrary reasons. It’s as if the change to the character is a challenge to our identity, like a corporate executive is telling us “This is how you SHOULD have seen Dora, but you didn’t!” It threatens to confirm that some part of our life was a lie, and ultimately meant nothing more than the dollars and cents we spent on its merchandising. Creepy.

Anyway, if there’s something the show should upgrade it should be it’s animation quality above all else!

umm ok dora cant stay a baby for ever ok your growing up rite!!!! besides dora doesnt look horrible or slutty. its like a child we dont wan it to grow im personaly angered abou tmy cute chunkie dora changing but comon it could be worse i havent seen the doll but if i see boobs stuff i will definatly protest. but cmon she not even half dress its approite for a tween lucky she dont got a skirt and a tanktop i just say too much lipstick she still chunky a lil she isnt skiiny. NO 1 HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE RUGRATS GROWING UP you are lucky i live in tokyo and the anime characters they try to make em look innocent but they are hot sooo yea be grateful ok. if dora came out like this yooh guys wud still luv her you wudnt be calling her a hoe think about it !!!!! k she cud take off the earings ang the lipstick but leav her alone kay i think itlll ge a lil to far if she’s tired and sweats and drinks water a lil u kno but cmon dora is Still Doll like the song she is still innocent.
