EW.
that’s awesome!
i want!!!!!!!!!
That is awful! i can only imagine how many peacock they had to kill!
Peacocks don’t die when they lose their feathers…geesh. The birds molt, meaning they ‘shed’ their feathers. I truly hope you were kidding…
Shed? You assume those people were waiting for hundreds of peacocks to shed? And birds die when you pull every single feather out of them. If everybody stopped lying to themselves and brought a line between necessity and “just an artistic bullshit” the world would become little bit better. Don’t you think?
chill the fuck out man. seriously, i hate animal abuse as much as the next person but they molt a lot of feathers. they probably find them too from merchants and other people. i just saw some guy who did a whole cape out of peacock feathers and he didn’t kill a single one. so chill out, you made yourself sound like a real ignorant ass.
no peacocks had to die, they drop their feathers every year. im a peacock breeder and i raise them. i sell feathers all the time when they drop. so do your research before you post stupid comments.
Seriously, people should do a little research before they blast others for things that never happen. Killing a peacock for one batch of feathers would be like killing a cow to get a gallon of milk. Peacocks shed feathers seasonally, loads of them, and you pick them up off the ground. They live a long time & produce hundreds of feathers. No one short of a crazed crack addict has killed a peacock for feathers. Peacock feathers are proof that God is a wonderful artist….
thankyou! geez….
It’s visually stunning I can’t help but feel the feathers would look better on the peacock! Even if they are shed naturally they would still have to farm them in someway to get that amount.
hit the nail on the head…even if the peacocks weren’t slaughtered, they were most likely farmed in less than friendly conditions so that some designer could make this dress that probably only got worn this once then put in storage somewhere. (lucky for the peacocks, most feathers in fashion are synthetic) Leave it to China to exploit something beautiful just because they can. I know that sounds horrible, but just look at Tibet…
Ummm… isn’t it he MALE birds that have this sort of plumage? Doesn’t seem quite right on a bride.
umm… holy crap that is a lot of feathers… and i agree. it is messed up that a GIRL wedding dress was made by MALE peacock feathers… and feathers look better on the actual animal. DUH! just go with white or something… GOD!!!
horrible! why to kill so many peacock, just to have a dress to wear one day!!!??? IT IS NOT WORTH IT!!!
Firstly, it is unjust to have an entire dress made up of real peacock feathers (shed or not).
Its just horrible that they pulled out the feathers from male or female birds! And no why would they wait for the bird to shed all the feathers out, when they can just pluck the colourful and clean top feathers off themselves. We are animals also, and to harm another species in a cruel way (for unnecessary reasons) is revolting.
that is so excessive. like how many peacocks did you kill to make that dress
EWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!
white would’ve been way better. but GROSS- less is SO MUCH MORE
Male peacocks can shed up to 100 feathers a year, they molt after mating season. No one kills the birds for their feathers (too expensive). This is at the Wedding Culture Expo held in Nanjing, China where the peacock is considered sacrid. It would take only 21 peacocks one year to make enough feathers to make this dress. There are peacock farms that have hundreds of birds just for breading and feathers. Get a grip people, this is the final piece at a fashion show, what fashion show doesn’t go overboard?
thank you someone on here has comman sense! i sold these feathers no birds died or even harmed.
Popcorn anyone? This show is hilarious…some people ACTUALLY believe The Peacock Pluckers are running around frantically, killing for feathers. I wonder how often their butts get jealous because of the poo coming from their mouth???? GET EDUCATED!
you guys are all lame
like seriously get a life
I for one prefer the traditionally red Asian wedding dresses. It makes me a little sad that western culture has shoved some of China’s beautiful national garments (most notably hanfu) aside in favor of sexualized Manchu-style qipao and cheongsam. While it is amazing that someone took the time to make a very ornate wedding dress entirely out of peacock feathers, there is a lot of overlooked symbolism going on here. The peacock is the sacred bird of Hera, the Greek goddess of marriage and has absolutely nothing to do with Chinese culture!
just gross.
i love peacocks… but this dress looks HORRID!!! i think these feathers would look better on the peeacock instead of some snobby rich bride!
Good grief. I can’t believe how ignorant some of these people posting are. No one is slaughtering peacocks for fashion. To address the idiot who brought up how birds die when you pluck all their feathers – the sale of peacock feathers does not require plucking (the feathers molt), nor does it result in bald birds. Peacocks have multiple types of feathers including crested ones that crown their heads, the downy ones that cover their bodies, ‘sword’ plumes and lastly the colorful tail feathers utilized to make this gown. Finally, since peacocks aren’t raised to be eaten, they’re not kept in cages to fatten up. Their lives consist of strutting, eating, mating, and taking off their clothes without ever having to pick up after themselves. We should all be so lucky! Frankly, the sociopolitical/environmental impact of this dress is nothing. Ask yourself it you can say the same about the diamonds most brides wear.
I understand that the birds do not get hurt, but my question is why did they not go with the feathers from a white variety?
White peacocks are WAY harder to come by, so I would imagine it would have been extremely difficult and considerably more expensive to go with a white variety. I want to work with white peacock feather SO badly, but only a handful of places sell them.
This is about as pretentious as it gets.I wonder how many peacocks died to make this thing.
I still have my feathers. <3
There should be a rule you have to Google search a subject before leaving comments. Matters of taste aside, no peacock was even remotely inconvenienced to make this dress. During molting season, the feathers cover the ground. Peacocks require a great deal of cruising around land, they cannot live in a cage. Seriously, can you imagine caging a creature with a tail the extends 6′ in his wake? Males need a radius the size of a mini truck to turn around. Once these majestic & very loud birds establish a home on your land, good luck getting rid of them. You must cage the (smaller) female, place her cage at the new home & then bring the male. He sets up housekeeping while waiting for his lady to come out, and usually they will stay in the new location providing there is space, food & water. They eat almost anything, and develop routines such as coming to our back door the same every day to put on a show with their plumage in exchange for dog food, bread, vegetables, etc. Each male= over 100 tail feathers shed a year, so feel free to use them as you see fit, lest they rot on the ground. If you hate the dress, don’t put out the $1mil to buy it….
