SNCF poster by Niessen & de Vries

I would love to have this poster hanging in my room even though I don’t really understand what it says. It was designed by Neissen & de Vries to celebrate the 70 years of the Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais (SNCF). If you’re curious or want to translate for me, the words on the poster say: Donner au train des idées d’avance.

Thanks FFF.

  1. Toto says:

“Donner au train des idées d’avance” literally means like “Giving the train ideas ahead of time” but it alludes to many other meanings: “avance” means “move forward” (the conjugated verb) but also “early” and it’s a pun on the expression “avoir un train d’avance sur…”, which literally means “being a train ahead of…” or roughly “being ahead of its time,” ot “to be a step ahead.”
