Tonight at 8PM EST on TLC, a documentary called “The 650-pound Virgin” will air which follows the life of David Smith and his journey that resulted in him losing over 400 pounds in just 26 months.
With the help of a personal trainer, David was able to lose on average about 15 pounds a month. The documentary will also show how David Smith underwent surgery several times to remove the excess skin that was left from his massive weight loss. So far, he has had 3 operations to remove extra skin and doctors believe he will need 1 or 2 more to get things to a normal state.
David Smith appeared on the Today Show on Friday (July 10) to promote the show. Check out the embedded video segment below.

David I watched your program TLC tonight. WOW!!!! is all I can say. You must be so pround of yourself. Your story is truely amazing, it make me have a whole new out look on life. I myself am overweight and have been since my teen years. Cirumstances for me are somewhat different than yours. We all have our stories. You are a great looking guy and someday the girl of your dreams will knock you off you feet. You’ll see her and you’ll just that she’s one. Any girl in her right mind would snag you in a heartbeat. Again your story is truely inspiring and you should be so proud of yourself for all that you have acomplished. Now that you have that best friend hang on to him and let him be your wing man. I have a notion he’ll have nothing but great things to say about you. With a best friend as your wing man, the great story and your outstanding personality you’ll find Miss Right.
I just watched the show. We can lose weight on our own without surgery. Jack keep fast to your values who ever you end up with will be a very lucky girl.

Fantatic effort David, keep up the amazing work. You’ll find the right person as well!!
Sitting here and watching your story on the television. You have come so very far … all on your own and that is impressive and something you should be proud about! I believe you have a new start – a new beginning but I hope that putting your story out there to be commented and judged by the public might be a sacrifice to your privacy and I personally believe that you possess on your own all the charm and looks and beautiful spirit that will help you find true love, all by yourself. Believe in yourself and trust that you deserve this and be patient in the meantime – by taking care of you! *Hmmmm – I will sorta miss hearing bout you if you do consider my advice and hear my worries but I just don’t want to see you publicized in ways that might hurt you and to have to cope and deal with this in front of an audience of strangers. You deserve so much more and once again, I do believe that is around the corner for you – know that you learned how to love yourself – you can love another but any intimacy or foundation of a solid foundation could very well be jeapordized if sold or “showcased” on this kind of platform. If you want a friend to chat with – I would welcome that as would several girls. Good luck and many blessings David.
you have an amazing story, your an amazing person, and you will find an amazing person to share your life with!
Hi David,
I am watching your show on TLC and it is truly inspiring. Like you, I have been struggling with my weight since graduating high school back in 1994. I think it is really great that you were able to accomplish such an incredible feat without surgery. I hope that your story will inspire others out there to complete their weight loss journey without surgery because it can be done. I wish you the best in your new life and hope that you do find love. There is somebody out there for everyone. Who knows, she may even be watching this show.

I truely think one of the issues surrounding his inablility to find a girlfriend is because he is gay.
and Dan-ielle…. what do you know about being gay?
That crossed my mind too Danielle– I’m gay so I know all about trying to do what’s expected of you– had a failed marriage and gained 140 pounds because of it. I cannot speak for Dave… it’s something he’ll have to figure out on his own…but again– it really crossed my mind–
Can someone please moderate these comments? Danielle, nobody cares about what you “truely” think because you do not know David personally, and whatever impression you may have gotten from watching a 1-hour television special cannot be enough to form an opinion on his sexuality.
He admits to having been a recluse his entire (young) adult life, because of the ridicule he suffered when simply walking down the street. Of course he can’t find a girlfriend – he just learned how to TALK to girls.
David if you’re reading this: Your courage, your struggle, and your accomplishments have made you into the person that you are today. Don’t ever forget that. Much love from Toronto! xoxo
David,
I saw you on Channel 4 morning news. I have a 32 year old son that weighs 440 lbs. and needs so much help. He just got out of the hospital for congested heart failure. My son is a NYC sanitation worker, who is not working any longer because he is so huge. As I am writing to you tears are flowing down my face-as we need help and don’t no where to turn. I would be greatful if you could answer me with some kind of guidence.
david i just finished watching your show and even though i have just 30 lbs to lose it has motivated me to do just that!
I think you are too concerned about how these girls see you in their eyes
you have done an amazing job and look super hot and when the time is right you will meet a wonderful girl who wont judge you in any way whether its your shyness, scars etc
you look fantastic and so many people have alot to learn from your old fashioned values !!
I’ll be 57 years old in May and just finished my very first 10 Day cleanse on the Master Cleanse! I have never felt better in my entire life! It’s absolutely the BEST thing I’ve ever done! I have lost weight, I have more energy than ever, and I am a zillion times happier! I actually wanted to stay on now for 21 days but am going on vacation next week to Disneyworld! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this to anyone! I was overweight before, always felt sluggish from all the carbs and sugar and junk I ate, had stomach problems, diarrhea and arthritis in joints. I’m a new person!
WOO HOO! JUST DO IT! You’ll never regret it!
Will it make the color of the stretch mark go away?
