Renown Cuban fashion illustrator, painter, sculptor, and filmmaker Ruben Toledo has teamed up with Penguin Books to put out 3 of literature’s greatest works in a brand-new illustrated cover series.
Ruben Toledo’s work, which have been featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, The New Yorker, Interview, and The New York Times, will don the covers of Wuthering Heights (Emily Bronte), Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen), and The Scarlet Letter (Nathaniel Hawthorne). These are truly remarkable and beautiful paperbacks which Penguin Books has graciously sent over to me for review.
Each book features a French flap and will go on sale for $16 each starting August 25, 2009 (just in time for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City)! If you pre-order on Amazon.com however, you can save a couple of dollars on each title as they are each selling on Amazon.com for $10.88.
- The Scarlet Letter: (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition)
- Wuthering Heights: (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition)
- Pride and Prejudice: (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition)

Beautiful! I love his unconventional, yet entirely appropriate, take on Hester Prynne. Are there any more coming out? I’d love to see what he would do with Jekyll & Hyde or Heart of Darkness.
