Wait a second. So according to this BBC clip, many of the hurricanes that affect America’s East Coast each year could potentially have been caused by a single girl walking across the Saharan Desert?! I’m a bit disappointed that the explanation isn’t even more ridiculous than this.

That explanation would be synonymous to the “butterfly effect”: the flapping of a butterfly’s wings in one part of the world has the potential to create the initial conditions to form a tornado in another.
It sounds ridiculously far fetched, but it’s an intriguing explanation, nonetheless. :P
Though not entirely related, it reminds me of something I learned in my college Geology class about dust storms in the U.S. east coast originating from the Sahara Desert. These sandstorms are so large when they cross the Atlantic that they can be seen from space.
