I’m sad to report that today marked the last day that PBS would air episodes of Reading Rainbow, a television program for children that I watched fondly as a kid. For those who have never seen it, Reading Rainbow was a wonderful show that helped foster an interest in reading with young people. The show was hosted by LeVar Burton and is the 3rd longest running show to ever air on PBS (after Sesame Street and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, two equally fantastic shows).

Interesting little tidbit about the Reading Rainbow theme song. The guy who wrote it lives in Hastings (where I grew up, just up the CH line from grand central) and we were firefighters together for 5 or so years. He’s a really great guy. Imagine how weird it was when i found out he had written the theme song to one my favorite shows growing up.
