If you haven’t heard of Peasants & Travelers, you should keep them on your radar because the young company is putting out some great looking products for travelers wishing to go about in style. The company is founded and headed up by Jee Kim, a fashion designer with history at Gucci, Neiman Marcus, Williams Sonoma, and Banana Republic. Jee developed the look for the Peasants & Travelers collection after traveling Europe and Asia and making notes about how people carried things. She then brought back that sense of style and functionality to the US and started Peasants & Travelers.
A couple of weeks ago, the kind folks there sent over one of their backpacks in blue for me to check out and I’m happy to report that it’s an excellent choice for anyone who needs a decent sized backpack for carry-on traveling or casual commutes in an urban city. The bag is made with a nylon exterior with genuine leather accents that really place the bag above its competition in terms of aesthetic appeal. But it’s not just good looks here, the Peasants & Travelers backpack has ample storage space and compartments to make sure not only is your stuff with you at all times, but that it’s organized and easy to find as well. The main/large pocket is where you’ll be placing most of your stuff. Inside, you’ll find a divider that fits a 15″ MacBook Pro (or similarly sized laptop) just fine with protective padding on the back and front sides to ensure that it’s safe during bumpy rides. On the front side of the interior compartment is a mesh zipper pocket for you to store smaller valuables and things you’ll need to gain access to frequently.
The outside as you can see is separated into two pockets, both of which have a zipper enclosure. But if you open up the larger of the two pockets, you’ll find an additional zippered pocket hidden away from sight.
The backpack itself is rather comfortable to wear but you won’t really experience the full comfort level that this bag offers until you really stuff it with heavy items. When completely filled, the bag remains soft on the shoulders because of its extra-padded shoulder straps coupled with the molded and ventilated back support panels (which are also padded).
Overall, this is a solid bag with a rugged yet sophisticated look which I think many of you will love. The backpack comes in two colors — olive and blue — and you can grab one now at the Peasants & Travelers online store for $130.
