PDN has posted some of the Norman Rockwell’s photos that inspired some of his photorealistic paintings during his career. I was never into Rockwell that much, but I always liked the feeling that I got when I looked at his paintings. It’s kinda funny that I was exposed to Rockwell’s artwork at the optometrist when I was younger and generally associated his work with visiting the eye doctor. Anyway, I had no idea his paintings were based on actual photographs that he took and composed. It all makes sense now, and just so it’s clear…I still like his paintings more.
If you’re interested in seeing more, there’s a new book out called Norman Rockwell: Behind the Camera that compiles a lot of the photo and painting pairings.
