Red Cross confirms about $3 million in text message donations

If you haven’t heard, the Red Cross has set up an easy way to donate to the relief efforts in Haiti by texting “haiti” to 90999. By doing so, $10 will be added to your cellphone bill and the entire amount goes to the Red Cross (cellphone companies make no profit).

And just now, Mark sends over word that the Red Cross has now raised about $3 million alone on these text message donations. That’s a huge amount in just a few days. Head on over to the American Red Cross website to find out more ways you can help.

  1. Thats a nice gesture. $3 million is alot, but a lot more is needed in order to cope with everything

That is good to hear. My friend Sasha is there in Port au Prince. Check out this letter she wrote from today, which I posted on my Tumblr blog: http://tumblr.com/x955o442q

If anyone wants to donate to her organization’s relief efforts follow that link. Obviously a much smaller organization than Red Cross but helping in ways the Red Cross maybe can’t.
