The New York Times’ Lens blog is featuring some of Carl Weese’s photographs of abandoned and rotting drive-in theaters across America. Carl shoots these abandoned beauties mainly with a 7×17 Corona Panoramic banquet camera and an 8×10 Deardorff.
I, like Carl, have a huge fascination with drive-in theaters and seeing photos like this just makes me wonder what it must have been like to actually go to one in its heyday (I wasn’t born in the generation that thought it was a good idea to drive and sit in a car while watching a movie). It seems a bit romantic and fun. I wonder if I can stand the audio quality coming from my radio though.

The sound quality through the radio really isn’t that bad. It’s pretty cool, on a clear night, to just sit out on the grass by your car and watch a movie with bunch of people from the community.
