The big news in transportation in the past day or so is the $8 billion of federally funded money that has been distributed across the U.S. to build high-speed rail and fix already-existing railway infrastructure. California got a big chunk of that money — $2.35 billion to be exact — and is planning on construction a high-speed rail line between San Francisco, Sacramento, and Los Angeles.
Cyclelicious posted this video below of one of the California high-speed rail renderings that may be built with this money.
Overall, it’s looking like the U.S. is finally making this nation up to par with others who already have high-speed rail and are benefiting from it. There’s no plans yet of anything that goes direct continental, but maybe if these projects turn out well, there will be more money put into future rail projects. I’m crossing my fingers.
YESSSS. These things are amazing! Taiwan’s was finished a couple of years ago, and now you can ride from one end of the island to the other in about 1.5 hours, whereas in the past it took at least 7-9 hrs. Hooray! Think of the how awesome the view will be.
