Atlas V rocket creates a visual sonic boom

On February 11, 2010 at the Solar Dynamics Observatory Launch, the Atlas V rocket exceeded the speed of sound and created a sonic boom while it passed through a layer of ice crystals. Because of this, the sonic boom was made visible as it rippled through the atmosphere. If you want to skip to the exciting part, it’s after the 1:50 mark. [via]
