I’m sorry, but this is one of the weirder Improv Everywhere stunts I can remember. In this particular mission, 30 folks from Improv Everywhere go into a bar and select a guy — “Ted” — and sort of end up convincing him to play along to a surprise birthday bash thrown for him. It’s kind of weird to watch him and his friend just sit there and take it in and it leaves me with a completely different feeling than just about all of the other Improv Everywhere missions before this.

This was such a weird mission. I wonder why they didn’t just throw him a random birthday party, as himself, instead of pretending he was someone else completely? The fake ex-girlfriend? WTF?
NPR’s This American Life did a segment on Improv Everywhere and actually did an interview with this guy after the mission. He seemed kinda messed up by it.

Wow, i’m kinda glad I’m not the only one who thought this was a weird mission! I’m gonna go listen to this radio program now to see what he thinks.
