Some bad news coming out of the Federal Environmental Protection Agency this morning as it just named the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn a government Superfund site. For those who are unfamiliar, Superfund is the US Government’s program to actively clean up hazardous waste sites. The Gowanus Canal was once home to some of the worst polluting companies in New York City and years of hazardous waste lie in the murky-green waters of the canal. The E.P.A. estimates that the federal cleanup will last 10 to 12 years and cost $300 million to $500 million.

I’m kind of curious to see what sort of mutants the government will dig up from this place…
