Review: Truckers by Mary Richardson

I remember fondly being a young kid and wanting ever so strongly to be a truck driver when I grew up. Part of it I’m sure had to do with the fact that my father owned and drove his own truck and then later went on to drive trucks for a company that delivered inter-state goods. And another part probably has to do with the fact that I like being on the road. From what I know, being a trucker is no easy job. It’s hard work and long hours and many adventures along the way.

Mark Batty Publisher sent over this book called Truckers recently that’s written by Mary Richardson, a former trucking industry trade magazine writer. She and three photographers — Phil Andrews, Jenny Williamson, and Meshakai Wolf — ventured out onto the road to follow several truckers and their day to day lives.

In this enlightening book, the world that I thought truckers lived in got turned upside down and I now realize that the job is part grungy, part lovely, and part mysterious in a way that probably no other job can match. I highly encourage you to pick up a copy and read along as you follow Mary and her photographers into the lives of these truckers from around the US.
