I don’t normally watch Judge Joe Brown, but this particular episode shows me that he knows exactly what he’s talking about when it comes to cases relating to photography. Watch here as he rips this photographer apart for using amateur equipment for a professional job. He even catches them off-guard with his up-to-date knowledge of current photo equipment. In the end, it’s pretty obvious who gets the ruling. [via]

What your introduction to this clip shows me is that there is one person more ignorant about photography than Joe Brown– you. All Brown shows is that he can read from a list of equipment provided to him by a production assistant and that he had made up his mind on this judgment before he ever took his seat on the bench.
I located your post while looking for Brown’s self-described “published photography” (which I have yet to locate . While he may consider himself knowledgeable about photography and photographic equipment nothing in this clip demonstrates anything more than cursory understanding of photography.
From what little I can see from the wedding photography samples shown in the clip the couple got exactly the quality of the work a $1300 wedding fee should deliver. The quality of camera they used is perfectly adequate for this level of photography. Were the photographers to be using the level of equipment Brown methodically repeats, their fees would necessarily be 3 to 4 times the modest fee this couple paid.
This segment was a self-serving parade for Brown’s ego. If he has any knowledge of photography it is pedantic at best.
Thanks Jerome. You are a god.
You are welcome. It is good that you recognize my deity. Keep on blogging.
I agree with Jerome. Brown mentioned, almost implying, that one needs to be shooting on a D3 to be professional… please old man. Only noobs would deduce quality of a photo with the model of a camera. Seriously. Its more about the lens.
I shot my 3rd wedding just last month for $1k. No prints. I shot it on D90 + a $150 50mm. 1.8 and rented a Zeis lens. For the couple it was their 2nd marriage. The photos I gave them were 1/4th of the cost of the brides previous wedding and their family loved them.
Judge Joe Brown ruled against them so harshly because horse-face wouldn’t STFU and show some respect. She deserved it. Her partner seemed more sane. She should find a new business partner.
