Gothamist to be bought by Rainbow Media for $5 million

I consider this to be a pretty big deal and I’m wondering why it’s not being reported elsewhere as such. Anyway, according to paidContent.org, a source close to Cablevision has confirmed that a deal is near for Cablevision-owned Rainbow Media to purchase Gothamist for $5 million to $6 million.

For those who don’t know, Gothamist is a NYC-based website started in 2003 that has grown into quite a network of city blogs in many major metropolises in the US.

I always thought Gothamist would have been worth a bit more considering its hold in the NYC online community, but I suppose that figure is high enough as it is.
