Ric Serena is heading up this project called The [ahr-tuh-zen] Project that follows the life of different artists who practice their art by doing physical work rather than sitting behind a mouse, keyboard, and a computer.
In this episode, Ric talks to printmaker Dave Lefner who uses a process of reduction linocuts to record memories of the city of Los Angeles. Dave uses one piece of linoleum for each of his multi-color prints and basically carves different layers into the same piece of linoleum for each color. The process is long and precise, but in the end, I think Dave has mastered a skill that not only results in some beautiful work, but also puts him on the map as one of the few who are able to do this so well.
I can’t wait to see the next episode in this documentary series!
