From The Soul Artists to Zoo York: a brief history of NYC skate culture

DEATHBOWL TO DOWNTOWN “Soul Artists” from Six Stair on Vimeo.

In the 70′s, The Soul Artists were known as the original graffiti crew on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. This short section from the documentary Deathbowl to Downtown offers a spectacular glimpse at The Soul Artists and the eventual formation of New York City’s first skate crew known as Zoo York. Today, Zoo York is still a staple in the global skate community and this video does a great job of introducing viewers (or reminding viewers) of where the roots of the crew and the company come from.
