How to break your 5D in a second from Agua on Vimeo.
I had no idea that lasers could be dangerous to DSLR sensors, but ISO50 posted video proof of lasers at a concert totally ruining a Canon EOS 5D Mark II’s sensor. As you watch the video above, make note of when the laser passes over the sensor and then immediately after you’ll see a sensor artifact stay on screen (more or less rendering the camera useless).
Here’s one more video of the same laser-burning effect. So sad. Be sure to keep your cameras away from high-powered lasers!
Shame, that laser looked kinda cool for a second there, too. I’ll have to be more conscious of the dangers of shooting video!

wonder if there is something in manual warning of this sorta thing like dont point at bright lights etc.
Damn, that is crazy.

any damage seems anomalous… what proof is there that the damage is permanent?
do all videos after the damage show it?
worse, why with MULTIPLE LASER PASSES, of identical intensities, should only a SINGLE ‘damage mark’ appear in the shown video, rather than multiple ‘scarring’???
that should be impossible that only ONE ‘mark’ occurs and not more, as many times as the laser passed across the dSLR fov?!?!?
odd… some post-damage proof is in order… show us a non-laser light show video in an entirely different context with the identical ‘damage mark’ persisting, then it would make real sense to be ‘laser light show wary’…
on the second video…
17 laser passes… and only a single ‘laser damage’ mark on only the first pass… where are all the other 16 laser damage marks???
