WP Engine: a new WordPress-optimized hosting provider

Public School is really making me want to switch my hosting provider from Media Temple to a new host called WP Engine. WP Engine is a dedicated WordPress host with a bunch of WP-optimized features and settings that make any WordPress site run smoothly.

Frankly, this site is beginning to grow beyond Media Temple’s limits and I’m always open to new options in terms of getting this site running faster despite its continued growth. At the moment WP Engine looks like it’s invite-only but already I’m sort of sold on the idea.

I’m glad we’ve helped win you over on the idea. It’s a great platform thus far. I’m sure Cullen and the rest of the WPEngine guys would love to have you. I’ll put in the good word tomorrow at lunch with them. :)

I thought this looks interesting and had a nosey through the site. I didn’t like the sound of this from their ToS:

By submitting Content to WPEngine for inclusion on your Website, you grant WPEngine a world-wide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, modify, adapt and publish the Content solely for the purpose of displaying, distributing and promoting your blog.

What is that all about if they are a host?

  3. Mike,

Thanks for pointing this out! I won’t lie, we had no idea this was in our TOS. We actually borrowed our TOS from Automattic, the creators of WordPress, because they have it under the creative commons license. This is really convenient for a startup! We thought we had removed anything that didn’t apply to us but this one slipped through!

I’ve done another pass through and it looks like everything is now correct, and that statement specifically is completely removed.

WPEngine definitely does NOT own your content, we even make it super easy to take your content and leave at any time if we’re not earning your business every single day.

Let me know if you still have any questions!

    Cheers,
