Prototype wheelchair can automatically follow the person next to it

Japanese researchers at Saitama University have developed a prototype wheelchair that is capable of tracking the person standing next to it and using that information to follow that person around. This sounds like pretty great technology for saving people’s backs from bending over too many wheelchairs. I hope they can apply this technology to shopping carts real soon! [via]
