Shopping malls turned into places of worship

Coudal linked to this interesting collection of photos by Estan Cabigas called New Cathedrals that documents the rising acceptance of malls as places of worship amidst the largely Catholic Filipino society. I wonder if the mall is closed during the times of worship or if shoppers are just milling around while the church service is going on in the background.

One Response to Shopping malls turned into places of worship

Haha, I’ve been to the mall pictured above (Shangri-La) during Sunday night Mass and they don’t close anything down. They just blast the music really loudly and people walk around as if nothing’s going on. I guess that since most Filipinos in Manila are Catholic, seeing Mass held in the malls is pretty normal, so they just mind their own business and let the worshipers do their thing.
