Like you, I don’t see what the big deal is about these screws, and I’m not even that upset that Apple is using them on their products. They probably see people every day who tried unsuccessfully to repair / alter their phones, only to break it or cause permanent damage.
There don’t seem to be any simple modifications that can be made inside the phone’s casing without some special knowledge or training, so I don’t blame Apple from trying to keep Joe Shmoe from opening his phone.
