Egypt disconnects from the web as civil and political unrest continues

This is pretty incredible news: At the moment, about 93% of Egypt is shut off from the internet. That’s right. Silenced, disappeared, gone. Just like that. Because of the widespread use of social networking websites and forums to gather people together in protest, Egypt has asked its ISPs country-wide to shut off all connections until further notice.

This, of course, isn’t stopping everything from being reported, but it sure as hell makes it a lot harder for people to communicate and mobilize.
