The Case for Bike Racks on NYC Buses

StreetFilms released this video just yesterday that shows just about every single major city in the US — except for NYC — with bike racks on buses. Some opponents of bike racks on city buses have stated that bike racks on city buses will have a negative effect on loading times for stops along the route. But according to the video above, this doesn’t seem to be the case, with most cyclists being able to quickly load/unload their bike and still get out of the way by the time the last passenger boards.

But really, I do wonder now why NYC buses don’t have bike racks when so many other cities’ buses do.

Feels great to live in Minneapolis. Big city feel but super bike friendly. No worries here man!
sorry that was mean. but seriously, I can’t believe NYC doesn’t have bike racks on their buses. I never even thought it was an option NOT to have bike racks… terrible.

if people have done it before its quick, if people are new and or dumb it can be a bit slow and painful sometimes. But overall there not used to much but great for when someone does need it.

You know what slows down bus load times? Old people. Everyday going on the B6 to college old people take forever to get on and off. Bike racks wouldn’t be an issue.

    What???
How can this be? Zero bike racks on NYC buses? Really?
In Vancouver every single Bus has bike racks.

That’s surprising that NYC doesn’t have this! We have them in Santa Barbara. The only problem is the buses can hold only 2 bikes at a time and they’re first-come-first-served, so if you plan to throw your bike on the front of the bus and there’s no room, you’re basically screwed.
