Inspiration Studios in Australia wanted to demonstrate the Direct To Edit feature on the Arri Alexa and found no better way to do it than to film a short segment direct from the camera itself. I love the way he pushes that DSLR straight to the ground. So funny! [via]

Have you seen the latest RED EPIC shots? It puts Alexa into the ground.
Here’s a comparison:
Camera: RED Alexa
Dynamic Range: 18 stops 13.5 stops
Resolution: 5k 1080p (or 3k with special outboard module- tethered)
Color Space: REDRAW ARRIRAW
Quick Edit Format: QT Proxy Full ProRes File
Weight: <10lbs Loaded 16.85 lbs (cam & SXS only- no lens, no monitor)
Max Frame Rate: 120fps 60fps
And that's just being technical. I don't have a way to properly compare size, but think of the EPIC as a hassleblad sized device with all this power. And the ARRI weighing in at almost twice the weight and size without lens, monitor, battery, etc. There's no comparison. EPIC is being used on some of the largest productions being shot this year- from "The Amazing Spider-man" to "The Hobbit." If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me. I can't imagine shooting 1080p for cinema in this day and age. All 1080p movies are upscaled to meet the 2k cinema requirement for digital cinema. It's just wild that people would pick a resolution that's less than 35mm to showcase their work!
At the end it says “Shot on Red MX”
Love that it’s pimping out the Arri, but shot on a Red.
