Fleas jump with their toes

Cambridge researchers have discovered that fleas are able to jump up to 200 times their length because they are able to transfer lots of energy to their toes. They discovered this by filming fleas with a high speed camera and analyzing the slow-motion video.

Proof or not, I still don’t see any toes exerting energy on those fleas. I don’t want to believe this until I understand what the hell is going on. I wish they would have drawn over the moving image or something. [via]
