Rebecca Black – Friday

I need some uplifting material following the onslaught of today’s Japanese news. That’s not to say I’m trying to block it out, but for now, I really am enjoying this Rebecca Black song called “Friday”. And by enjoying, I really mean laughing heartily.

It’s no secret that Japan is a technologically advanced nation. The 8.9-magnitude earthquake which struck the region yesterday afternoon is producing lots and lots of videos which are being collected in one place by YouTube’s CitizenTube channel. This is a great place to get raw footage from the scene without the news commentary.

Building engineers in Japan should be applauded for designing buildings that can sway and not crumble despite one of the strongest quakes to hit the country in recent history. Watch as the video above shows several tall buildings in Japan swaying ever so slightly to counter the shaking ground beneath them.

In some of the first comforting news of the day from Japan comes word that Maru the cat is safe and ok following the 8.9-magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast yesterday afternoon (Japan local time).
