Loyal dog refuses to leave injured friend behind following Japanese tsunami

Seen in the video above from Japanese TV is a dog refusing to leave the side of his injured companion following the tsunami last week. It’s not incredibly important to know what the reporters are saying but if you are curious, the video page does translate it all into English. According to the video description, both dogs were eventually rescued and are now recovering and expected to survive.

i appreciate the positive interpretation suggested here by the reporter and others reblogging this clip, but i’m inclined to think that given the states of these two dogs, the “loyal” dog was actually waiting for the other to expire so that it can begin consuming the carcass. i could well be wrong, however, i don’t think it’s out of the question given that canines do engage in cannibalism under dire conditions.
