I swear I’m not making this up. So about 2 hours ago I was just casually using my iPad 2 like I do any other day and then I suddenly hear a *POP* sound. It wasn’t very loud and it was hard to tell what direction it came from so I didn’t pay much attention to it…until about 10 seconds later when I saw 2 hairline fractures in my iPad 2 glass!
I have never dropped my iPad, never put pressure on the screen, and have always taken good care of it (it’s always had a Smart Cover on it). So what caused this sudden crack? I have no idea. I was in regular room temperature and I can’t for any reason figure out why the glass would just crack like that. But it did, and I have already spoken to Apple about. Thankfully, they are doing the right thing and replacing this obviously flawed unit for me, but man, what a scare!
And on top of it all, this is the iPad 2 I’ve been trying desperately to get my auto-enroll AppleCare activated on. And now it seems I’ll be getting an entirely new unit with a new serial # which I’m sure is bound to cause some headache for me when I try to explain this to an AppleCare representative over the phone. UGH. :X

This happened to mine the other day! I didn’t hear a pop, but I was typing on it on the table and showing a friend a website and suddenly there was a crack across the glass on my screen. I really hope they fix it for me too.
Exact thing happened to me today. I just got my ipad 2 about a month ago and have been veryd elicate with it. As I was routinely using it today, I went to press the home button and crack went the screen. I have several cracks around the home button and others stemming from there across the whole screen. I have an app at the Apple store tomorrow, hopefully they replace mine as well!
Guess what, exact same thing happened to me sometime today between last night and this afternoon. I used my iPad 1 last last night. No issues. I put it on the charger. Then I take it off the charger today and notice a crack all the way across the screen. I do remember hearing some kind of a “pop” in my room but didn’t pay any attention to it. This crack appeared out of nowhere. The iPad has never been dropped or anything else. The back is still completely scratch free. The iPad 1 is obviously out of warranty. The only thing I can think of is that the battery has expanded, causing the crack. What did you do? Did the Apple Store give you a replacement unit?

My husband put his iPad2 away on Tuesday night, in the protective case as usual. He took it out of the case on Wednesday evening and there was a spiderweb of cracks in the bottom righthand corner! It’s not been dropped or mis-handled in any way. We’re taking it to an Apple store tomorrow and I hope they replace it for free as this sort of thing should not happen to such an expensive piece of equipment. He’s only had it less than 3 months!
Same thing happen to my I pad 2 . Went to the apple store and they will not replace it. they will for 250 dollars. This is my first apple product and I am not happy. It is less then 3 months old.
