The New York Times has an incredible article about cyclist Damien Lopez Alfonzo who at the age of 13 was electrocuted and sustained massive injuries to his body including disfigurement and limb amputation. One look at his physical figure and you would never think that he would be able to ride a bike, but not only does he ride a bike, but he competes on an international level with “normal” cyclists — competing in races and sometimes besting them at their own sport. Now, with prosthesis fitted, Damien is hoping to train and compete in the 2012 Paralympics!
There’s a video of Damien riding his bike if you find this story hard to believe!
