Kirby Ferguson’s 3rd part in his series entitled Everything Is A Remix is all about how the combination of truly original ideas lead to innovations which then lead to massive changes in human history.

Kirby focuses this particular episode on the personal computer with a graphic user interface and credits most of it to Xerox, a company that very few people think of when they think of personal computers. Of course, Xerox didn’t come up with everything on their own — they combined previously invented technologies to come up with their business computer — but their idea did inspire Apple to make the computer consumer-friendly which then exploded the PC market to become what it is today.
