Some people are content with Apple’s iPad 2 Smart Cover protecting their iPad 2′s, but for something a bit robust there’s this elegant machined aluminum case from KarasKustoms. I’ve posted about KarasKustoms previously — they make toys and various accessories to protect your electronics — all with an industrial look that really makes your gadgets stand out among the sea of gadget owners.

I was sent a special black version of the KarasKustoms iPad 2 case and I’ve had it on my iPad for about weeks now and I haven’t had the urge to go back to my Smart Cover ever since! The case is strong but light and really well made. The aluminum is polished to a certain extent but not so much that you don’t get to see some of the raw scratches acquired during the manufacturing process. Usability seemed to be a priority when this case was made and you can see that with easy access to all buttons and holes cut directly into the aluminum to allow for the speakers to do their thing without sacrificing sound quality or volume.

Installation is a breeze with the supplied mini-Allen wrench and 4 screws. If you can put together IKEA furniture, you won’t have a problem here.

While it may not offer much drop-protection, it does a great job of keeping your iPad 2 scratch-free without adding much bulk or weight. Overall, I just really like how this case looks and I think KarasKustoms has a great product here that should be considered if you’re looking for something other than the Smart Cover.
